This corner is for HR professionals working in education (schools and childcare).
Child protection, performance management, workplace diversity and union management are key HR issues in education. HR professionals in these fields have to contend with the regular complexities of employment law regarding these issues (covered in our all industry corner), but in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, and Victoria they also need to comply with the relevant ‘reportable conduct’ scheme.
Since 1999 New South Wales has had a reportable conduct scheme which provides independent oversight by the NSW Ombudsman of how organisations handle child abuse and neglect allegations against employees.
In July 2017, the ACT Ombudsman and the Victorian Commission for Children and Young People began to administer new reportable conduct schemes in their respective jurisdictions.
